Well, SOMEBODY landed on their feet

     OK, the Redskins blow. Next!!!
Interesting to see Manny Acta got the Indians managerial gig. So for those of you in Cleveland, here's what you should expect from Manny: He's not one to blow his stack, no matter how pathetic the play in the field (and at the plate) may get. But here's one Nationals fan who hopes that Manny gets a chance to show he can manage.
The Capitals keep winning, and the Wizards start their season tomorrow night (Tuesday). Believe me, ANYTHING that can take my mind off the Redskins is welcome news!!!Laughing

Where would I GO to root for another team, anyway

Let me see if I have it right. Neither the Redskins nor the Chiefs put the ball in the end zone today...and yet we still lose the fricking game??Frown How much more sadomasochism does Dan Snyder wish to inflict on us Skins fans??
Bad enough to jack up ticket prices for an inferior product on the field. Bad enough to use a NFL franchise as your own personal Madden game. Perhaps Joseph Welch said it for an entire region...though it was 1954 and not 2009, and it was Joe McCarthy instead of Dan Snyder...but his words ring true nonetheless:
"Have you no sense of decency at long last, sir???"Yell
Someone has to step in to stop this degradation of this once-proud franchise by this parasitic Napoleon. WHY he has this obsession of eradicating everything Jack Kent Cooke did for this organization...going so far as to take JKC's name off the stadium he (Cooke) built, and firing Frank Herzog...I don't think even God knows. (Not that I personally think He gives a rat's a*s*s about the Redskins at this point, either.)
I've followed this Redskins franchise since I was 9--I'm 51, BTW--and for the first time in my life I feel ashamed to watch a Redskins game on TV.Cry I'd almost give up on this, but where would I go, really?? I'm not fond of the Ravens; there's no way in this God's green earth I'd EVER pull for the bleeping Eagles (and don't even talk to me about those emm-effing Dallas mutants!!!)...so I'm stuck with the Redskins till they put my a*s*s in the ground.
Thank God there's still the Houston Texans...

The Redskins have now OFFICIALLY hit rock bottom.

Okay. Let's address the obvious question, shall we??
Just HOW does this Redskins defense make Matthew Stafford into Joe Montana, Tom Brady and John Elway all rolled into oneFrown?? It's bad enough you lose to a team that hadn't won a game since the end of the '07 season; now we see Jim Zorn for what he truly is...Frank Morgan. (You know?? The guy behind the curtain in "The Wizard of Oz"?? Him??)
Now the clock starts on when Jim Zorn gets fired. Not if, when. I'm taking bets that by the time "SportsCenter" comes on tonight (7:00), the lead story will be just that. If not, then definitely before next Sunday.
You can't say us Redskins fans didn't warn you all. I myself said I wasn't looking forward to watching this game. Famous last words.Foot in mouth
I can now say the Redskins have officially hit rock bottom today. The curse that is Dan Snyder's ownership of this franchise has reached its zenith this afternoon. Now we have Lions fans laughing at us. LIONS fans!!!Yell Somebody find me a rock, so I can crawl under it...
I'm disgusted. I'm out of words. Now I understand why my brother gave up his season tickets this year.
We're a goddamned travesty. Plain and simple.

Here's WHY the poll question came about...

There's a poll I created, that's open to anyone to respond. It's about over-scrutinized NFL media markets...and yes, Washington is among the choices.
     Here's the story.
For years, I've been of the opinion that if you asked fans in Washington, Dallas and Denver which of those 3 cities will you find overkill from a media standpoint...we would be talking 1-a/1-b/1-c, depending on where you ask the question. (For example, I would have it 1-a Washington/1-b Dallas/1-c Denver; I'm pretty sure people in Dallas would list them as 1-a, and in Denver they would go 1-a.)
Trust me, when I point out the Redskins are more over-scrutinized than either the Cowboys or Broncos it's because I live 2 hours from D.C...where we're subjected to the 24/7 bombardment of every move the Skins make (or don't make) on or off the field. But, I wanted to be absolutely sure I'm right; hence, this poll.
Now, the reason I purposely left New York City and Los Angeles out of this poll is because those two cities are different creatures when it comes to media. Besides, L.A. has pro football--it's called the USC Trojans. (LMAO.) But seriously, I wanted to see if my suspicions are correct that those of us in the D.C.-area are jaded when it comes to media coverage.
Why Chicago and Philadelphia?? Hey, why not Philly?? Believe me, just with Donovan McNabb alone the Eagles qualify (and this was before T.O., BTW). I threw Chicago into the mix just to have 5 choices.
So look at the poll, and factor in every aspect of media (radio/TV/print/online/blogging) before making your choice. This is completely unscientific, people. I'll leave it up for the entire season, so you'll see what I mean.
Have fun...and hail to the Redskins!!!

Passing thoughts, on the weekend

Observations on the sports weekend for us D.C. sports fans:
     1) The Redskins have major problems, judging by yesterday against the Giants. Absolutely no pressure on Eli Manning (notwithstanding 2 sacks by the Skins), and it had to take a fake FG to bring about a TD in order to spark the offense. And a message to LaRon Landry, from me: STOP trying to be Sean Taylor 2.0, and focus on being LaRon Landry 1.0!!! The penalty for hitting Brandon Jacobs out of bounds was flat-out stupid, LaRon!!!
     2) Why Craig Littlepage, the A.D. at Virginia, hasn't fired Al Groh after the disaster Saturday against TCU remains a mystery to us Wahoo fans. Bad enough you lose to a fricking 1-AA team (William and Mary) last week; now you bend over for Horned Frogs?? The only reason Al still has this job, is (supposedly) that it would cost U. Va. mondo moolah to buy him out. Don't let that stand in the way, Craig; FIRE HIS A*S*S NOW!!!
     3) On the subject of 1-AA teams...if I'm Ralph Friedgen, I'm shaking my head over how James Madison took Maryland to (this farce the NCAA calls) overtime, before JMU lost 38-35. Ralph, it's a 1-AA team that did this!!! (Full disclosure: Harrisonburg, VA...where JMU is located...is an hour's drive from my place.) I mean, after California did such a pimp-smack on Maryland the week before...c'mon, Ralph, admit it; you thought this would be a slam-dunk, right?? Yeah, right...like Michigan thought Applalachian State was a slam-dunk. (And we know what happened then, don't we??)
     4) Ian Desmond is making it harder for the Nationals' front office to say "Hey, let's send him back to Syracuse next year". Yeah, I know; at some point these next 3 weeks he'll go into a slump. But you have to admit, he fits into the Nats' plans for the future. (Full disclosure #2: I saw him @ Harrisburg last year. I knew then, he'd make it to Washington at some point.) Of course, helping to take 2 out of 3 from the Marlins goes a long way, too...
     5) Fun watching the Monday Night Football game and seeing the (Boston/New England) Patriots and Bills in old-school AFL colors. (The 50th anniversary of the American Football League, is why.) The "night" game--the (L.A./San Diego) Chargers and Raiders--is also old-school AFL night. Trust me, it'll be a blast seeing these replica jerseys all season long. (Wait till you see the Dallas Texans/Kansas City Chiefs helmets.) All I ever saw was old NFL Films footage, or an old kinescope from the ABC Sports archives. Like I said, it'll be fun.
See?? I can write useless crap, just like Gregg Doyel, too!!! LMAO

Wahoo Nation wants you GONE, Al (Groh)!!!

As I write this, my first (fan) blog for CBSSports.com, Virginia is losing way bad to TCU 24-0 in the 3rd quarter. And still Al Groh doesn't catch on, that the fans want him to just go away.
     NOW.
Not at the end of the season. Not next year, or the year after that.
Right this very moment...5:47 PM Eastern time, 9/12/09.
Whatever the hell the plan was for this spread offense Al wanted to install @ UVA, it AIN'T working!!! All you have to do is watch this debacle unfolding right now on ESPNU, and you'll see what I mean.
What it took George Welsh almost 2 decades to build up as concerns the football program @ Virginia...Al Groh has destroyed in less than 10 years. And unless Craig Littlepage, the A.D. at Virginia, does something in the next 24-48 hours...this program will (IMO) be permanently and infinitely damaged beyond anyone's repair. (Let's see the fricking UVA beat writers challenge my a*s*s on that!!!)
You have to understand, Littlepage was slow in pulling the trigger on Pete Gillen once the basketball program went south in Charlottesville. So what makes me think he'll move on Al any time soon??
(BTW, I just saw the perfect sign put up by a few fans to describe the whole situation. Or I should say, signs. One sign says, "Mediocrity...", and the other says "It GROHS on you". No truer words will ever be spoken about Al Groh, to be honest.)
So, there you have it. My debut blog. Read my mission statement (you know, "About This Blog"??), and you'll see I did not lie when I say I speak the truth about sports in the D.C. region. I have to say, I did a damn fine job...IMO, that is. LMAO

About Musings of a (D.C.) Sports Nut
Guess the name says it all. True, I live in the Shenandoah Valley...but, it's 2 hours from Washington, right?? Trust me, I'll talk about anything. And unlike certain "writers", I'll spell out the TRUTH about sports in the region!!! I'm an Superstar now (according to CBSSports.com, that is). Lord, THAT'S debatable...lol WHY am I cursed to watch Dan Snyder destroy the Redskins?? I ask you, WHY??
